NILEA: a Big Relief  For Applicants

By  Suleiman Umaru

For much of last year some of the  job seekers  who had taken the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA,  an agency of the ministry of Health, examination, had made the Abuja Headquarters  their home know to know  when the result of the successful Applicants would be released.

,   Unknown to many,   Mohammed Abdallah, the Agency Chairman and the Chief Executive officer, CEO, of the  Health ministry agency and his Management  Team, have their own plans on when to release the list of the successful Applicants after Compilation to avoid undue pressure from their guarantors , who  are said to be  well  connected top government officials and members of the National Assembly in their respective states. It was not surprising why Abdallah, the NDLEA Chairman, had kept the list a closely guided secret to give a level playing field to all the Applicants.

The NDLEA, CEO, may have taken the Applicants by surprise  by releasing the list of the successful Candidates  recently. In breaking the cheery news , of the release  of the list  of the successful  Applicants in the agency ongoing recruitment exercise,  Jonah Achema,  a Deputy Narcotics Commander and Principal Staff Officer, PSO, Public Affairs,  disclosed that the Candidates  from the six geo-political regions of the country-south west, south-south, south east, North central , north  east and north west, had applied  for different cadre vacancies.

Achema  had said that some of the applicants were invited for the  Competency  test, noting that the lucky Applicants have already been contacted. The successful Candidates, numbering 5, 200, he said are to appear  at the agency’s Academy , Citadel Counter-Narcotics Nigeria, CCNN,Katon-KRikkos, Jos, Plateau, home state, of Yakubu Gown, a retired Army General and former Head of  State, for the screening  and documentation exercise between  January 10 and 23, 2021 at 9am daily .

Giving an insider information on the screening and documentation exercise, the nNDLEA top official said the successful Applicants  have been ‘’divided into four different groups’’  in adherence to the Federal government policy on the Asian country of China emerged  coronavirus, popular, COVID 19,  protocols.

He  disclosed  that the order and schedule  for the exercise, according to the group  into which the Candidates  fall have been indicated .  He  has  a word of advice for the Candidates that they should arrive a day  ahead  of their screening and documentation to acclimatise themselves with the Plateau environment.

Going by the requirement needed  from the  Applicants, the NDLEA, spokesperson said the Candidates are to show up for the screening and documentation exercise with their guarantors’ form, originals and duplicates of academic  credentials, birth certificate/age declaration and  indigeneship  Certificates.

The Candidates, he further  said are also to come along for the screening and documentation exercise with  their certificate of Medical fitness from a reputable government owned General Hospital, both at the state and Federal levels. This is in addition  to a pair of shorts, T-shirts, Canvas and stockings.

This is a major difference between the NDLEA and the Hameed Ali, a retired Army Colonel  led Nigerian Customs Service, NCS. This is because  as these items were usually provided for the Customs new recruits including a monthly allowance to give  the officers a sense of belonging. Abdallah, the NDLEA, Chairman, may have to take a cue from Ali, the Customs Comptroller General by providing these sports wears and Canvas for the NDLEA new recruits as  a way of giving them  a sense of belonging.
