By Suleiman Umaru

The whereabout of  Kachalla Bello Turji, the most wanted  notorious Bandits’ Group Gang Leader, who has been terrorizing the north western states of  Zamfara, described as home of the bandits, Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina,  Kebbi and the north central state of Niger,   since  January 10, 2025, after the Nigerian Air Force, NAF,  conducted series  of airstrikes , targeting  the hideouts  of the bandits across  Zamfara state  with their kingpins fleeing   remain unknown.

This may have heightened speculations making the rounds in security circles that he may have been killed during the air raids of his hideout at the Fakai rock. Olusola Akinboyewa, an Air Vice Marshal and NAF, Director of Public Relations may have gladdened the heart of Nigerians, when he confirmed that the air strikes had inflicted heavy casualties on Turji’s loyalists.

Turji: dead or alive

He may not have stated categorically whether the notorious bandits’ group, gang leader, who many believe hails from neighbouring Republic of Niger, and working closely with other dangerous  bandits’ gang  leaders from Sudan, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, and Central country of Cameroun, were among the top Commanders of the group killed or who had sustained varying degrees of injuries  during the air strikes.

The NAF, Director of Public Relations, had said that Operation Fansan Yamma, could achieve the feat that had weakened the operational network of Turji , because it had ‘’ meticulously planned  and executed the air assault acting on  real -time  intelligence  from an intelligence Surveillance  and Reconnaissance , ISR, platform  to ensure precise targeting’’.

According to him,the targets who were identified around the Fakai Hill axis of Zamfara state, and were swiftly engaged   , using’’ rocket launchers and cannon multiple passes’’ , which was said to have  delivered  devastating  blows to Turji and other bandit’s’ group gang  Kingpin and their followers in their rvarious camps.

There is no gain saying the fact that the aircrew of Operation of Fasan Yamma, Joint Task Force, had succeeded in taking Turji and his Commanders to the cleaners and forcing many of them to flee eastward because ‘’the aircrew had maintained visual and audio contact with the ground troops’’ which was said to have result in killing many of the bandits’ group Commanders, who were targets.

Given the success that had been achieved by the Nigerian military in dealing decisively with Turji and his Commanders alongside otherbandits kingpin and their followers who were said to have made life extremely very difficult for residents of Communities in Shinkafi and Tsafe, Local Government Areas, LGAs, particular, may have informed why there was widespread celebrations in different parts of Zamfara state over the killing of the bandits group Commanders.

The locals, who could not hide their feelings were said to have expressed relief and gratitude to Gen. Chritopher Musa, Chief of Defense Staff, CDS, Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar, Chief of NAF, and Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff, COAS, including Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser NSA, for  giving them hope of going to live normal life again in their Communities in the north western state which had been under the siege of the Bandits over the years.

.The people of Zamfara state have every reason to come out in their large numbers in the streets to celebrate the elimination of no fewer than 120 terrorists described as deadly foot soldiers of Turji and the arrest of 105 others, as they believe that it will hasten the arrest of the most wanted notorious bandits’ group gang leader.

While Operation Fansan Yamma, operatives are making efforts to wipe out the bandits’ group from Zamfara and other north western states as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is currently in United Arab Emirate, UAE, on the invitation of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayad Al Nahyan, the country’s President, for Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit.

Pundits may have  wanted to make mockery of  the success that had been  achieved by Operation Fansan Yamma, aircrew and ground troops in dealing decisively with Turji and his loyalists at Fakai Hills in Zamfara state by alleging that air strikes on the Tungar Kara Community   under the Gidan  Goga district  of Maradun LGA OF Zamfara state ,  had hit members   of the Zamfara  Community Protection Guard, ZCPG,  , Local Vigilantes  and residents , killing 20 of them on Saturday, January 10, 2025, the same day that Turji’s hideout was raided .

The NAF, Authorities may not have found the information that had filtered into public domain funny that they have commenced investigations ‘to ascertain the veracity of the report and to avoid a repeat in future’’.

AVM. Akinboyewa, the NAF, Director of Public Relations, who had given his words had said that they will work closely with other relevant Authorities ‘’to unravel the facts and take appropriate steps   to prevent, minimize and mitigate any harm to civilian and civilian infrastructure in the course their operations’’.

He had assured Nigerians that they have no cause to worry about the outcome of the investigation as it will be duly communicated to inform and reassure the public of its unwavering commitment to restore peace in the region.
