Determined to remain at the top as the best performing Money Deposit Bank , MDB, in Nigeria, A the most populous country in the African Continent, the United Bank of Africa, UBA, plc, Pan African Bank, under the Chairmanship of Tony Elumelu, a business mogul has moved to appoint Mrs. Henrrietta Ugboh, as an Independent Non- Executive Director to replace Owanari Duke, who has retired from the service of the Bank.
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, under the close watch of Oluyemi Michael Cardoso, was said to have approved the appointment expected to strengthen the UBA plc, Group Board. Commenting on the appointment of the new Non- Executive Director into the services of the Pan African bank, Elumelu, who could not hide his feelings had said that Mrs. Ugbo would bring her track record of professional success, integrity and Leadership to bear on the bank .
The BA plc, Board Chairman, had said that the appointment of Mrs. Ugboh into the services of the bank underlines, the Group’s commitment ‘’to robust Corporate governance’’. An Economics and Statistics graduate of University of Benin, and an MBA, from Enugu state University of Technology, Business School, the new Non-Executive Director of UBA, is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School’s Executive Management program. With over 30 years’ experience in banking with Citibank, Mrs. Ugboh is an Honorary Senior Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria and a Fellow of the Institute of Administration , FCA.
The UBA plc, Chairman, noted that with Mrs. experience and expertise in banking operations, both within and outside the country, in the areas of commercial banking , credit and risk management, they have no option but ‘’ to welcome her to the Group Board’’ to contribute to the growth of the bank operations and expansion drive.
An elated Elumelu, was said to have assured shareholders that the bank will emerge stronger more than ever before as it would continue ‘’to execute its unique growth strategy across the African Continent and globally ‘’.
In a related development, the Delta state philanthropist and investor, was said to have the opportunity provided with the appointment of Mrs. Ugboh, as a Non-Executive Director of the Pan African bank, to also announce the retirement of Mrs. Duke, from the services of the bank as a Non-Independent Executive Director . Note that Mrs. Duke had joined services of the Pan African Bank, Group Board, , in 2012.
Giving a detailed profile of her services in the Group Board between 2012, until her retirement in November, 2024, as a Non-Executive Director, Elumelu, disclosed that Mrs. Duke had provided distinguished Leadership , serving on Committees of Bank including the Board of Governance Committee, Board Audit, Governance, Nomination and Remuneration Committee, Board Credit Committee, Finance and General Purpose Committee and Statutory Audit Committee.
Expressing his Appreciation to Mrs. Duke, over her services in the bank, for the 12 years she had served as a Non-Independent Executive Director in the Group Board, for her dedication and significant , contributions, Elumelu, was said to have ‘’wished her the best in her future endeavour’’.
