Barely one month after the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, under the close watch of Bashir Jamoh, embarked on ‘’the enforcement of full Compliance with the marine environment protection statutory requirements and document in Nigeria and foreign flagged vessels operating in the Nigerian maritime domain’’, the Institute of Environmental and Public Health Management, CIEPHMN, in Collaboration with the Maritime Reporters Association, MARAN, holds a one day Submit in Lagos, the nation’s Commercial nerve centre to sensitise industry stakeholders on the dangers of’’ Marine pollution’’ and the need for ‘’seaport Environmental Management’’.
A Statement issued by Obiajlu Agu, Secretary General, MARAN,stated that the Summit, would hold on Thursday, September 16, 2021, stressing the venue of the CONFAB is the Airport Hotel, Ikeja. The Summit, according to Agu, the MARAN, Secretary General, is expected to provide a forum for seasoned environmental experts in the nation’s maritime and oil sectors of the economy including other technocrats from the private and public sectors , particular, officials of the state and Federal Environmental Protection Agency , to discuss germane and contemporary issues affecting the nation’s maritime sector.
He noted that the annual International Summit is a strictly Corporate Social Responsibility and non-fee Paying project where all industry stakeholders are expected to converge in order ‘’to find a lasting solution to the Complex Challenges facing the country’s maritime and marine environment under the close monitoring if Jamoh led NIMASA.
The Summit , which is targeted at Practitioners and Industry stakeholders in the marine, Health and Environmental Management sectors of the economy, the MARAN, spokesperson, further said would examine the challenges facing the nation’s Heath and seaports environmental Management and come up with practicable solutions that would solve such problem in the country.
Given an insider information to the event, he disclosed that Jamoh, the NIMASA , Director General, Dele Badejo, Deoartment of Gelogy, Faculty of Social Sciences and Management, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun state, Aliyu Jauro, a Professor and Director General, National Environmental Standards and Regulations, NESREA, Kwesi Addo- Appiah, Director of the Institute of Maritime and Energy Research and Sustainable Development, University of Ghana, and Idris Musa, Chief Executive Officer , CEO, of the National Oil Spill Protection and Response Agency, OSDRA, would present position papers on the Environment to the Participants.
Also expected to present paper at the marine and environmental workshop is Tunji Bello, the Lagos state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, and Princess Vicky Hasstup, Chairman, seaports Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria, STOAN.
Adebayo Sarumi, a one-time Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, was said to have agreed to serve as the Chairman of the Summit, given the caliber of people expected at the event and those who are also expected to receive ‘’Leadership Excellence Awards’’.
Participants have been asked to endeavor to be at the Osun Hall, slated for the Summit at about 10 am prompt.
