For much of 2021, and now, Bashir Jamoh, Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, appears to have hosted officials various Organisations, too numerous to mention at the NIMASA premises, Apapa.
The latest of such high profile visitors to call on the NIAMA , Chief Executive Officer, CEO’s office was Alsmosy Mohammed Balbaa, a Professor and Vice President, African and Asia Affairs of Arab Academy of Science and Technology, of the North African country of Egypt. The duo were said to have discussed extensively on how the Academy can come in the retraining of its personnel and the country’s Seafarers. They were said to reached a deal on Jamoh’s pet project: capacity development.
Recall that the agency has a working agreement with the World Maritime University, Sweden, which had been involved in training most of its personnel. At present the agency has sent some of its staff on long term training to the University to build optimal capacities in various aspects of the maritime industry. ASTMT is also expected to play a similar role. Note that Jamoh, the Maritime Regulatory agency boss has taken capacity building very serious since he assumed office on March 10, 2020 and now.
