Those who thinks that President Donald Trump of the North American country of the United States, US, would bow to pressures from Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine to be part of the planned peace meeting with Valdimir Putin of Russia Federation, at Alaska, stated on Friday, August 15, 2025, would be disappointed.
Zelensky’s initial optimism of being at the high-profile meeting between the two super powers in Alaska, may have finally been dashed. This is because the Putin, the Russia President would not want him to be at the meeting, though the American President would have wanted to invite him to be at all-important peace meeting as the issue concerns securing a ceasefire in the ongoing war between the two east European countries.
The US President may have fixed the meeting at Alaska, described as ‘’Siberia ‘s Siberia’’ because it was formerly a Russian territory but sold to the US, after negotiations in 1867, when the country agreed to pay $7.2 million.
President Putin had said that Alaska had been selected for the peace meeting because ‘’the US is not part of the International Criminal Court which allows for a direct and indirect interruption of its affairs’’. According to him, ‘Alaska is a meeting point of two worlds and a neutral city’’, noting that it is at this US city that important discussion would take place this Friday, August 15, 2025, that would not only deal with the Russia -Ukrainian war but other silent issues that seeks understanding, stability and the way forward that would interest every party involved.
Given the importance attached to the Alaska meeting between Trump and Putin, and the US ,President refusal not to invite the Ukrainian leader to avoid getting his Russian Counterpart angry and who might decide not show up and further truncate the peace process may have informed why Zelenskyy, who has the backing of President Emmanuel Macron of France, Friderich Merch, the German Chancellor and other Western Leaders to have resorted to blackmail the two world Leaders .
Zelenskyy’s insistence that he ought to be at the Alaska meeting was not unconnected to the fact that the North American country had supplied Ukraine with most of the weapons used in the ongoing war with Russia including financial support.
Moreso, Zelenskyy had reciprocated the US gesture by opening the country’s borders for the American companies’ uranium, lithium and other rare earth mineral resources, miners to come in, mine and export. The raw materials exported are said to have been used in the US and other European Union, EU, countries’ nuclear, power, Information Technology, IT and digital facilities as well as the defense industries.
Acting out a script Zelenskyy, had imposed sanctions against 18 individuals and 17 entities tied to the Russian Federation energy sector as part of the Administration’s special economic and restrictive measures to win the heart of President Trump and the EU, Leaders but it was not enough to have qualified him to be at the Alaska meeting where important issues would be discussed by the two super powers which are spying on each other’s technologies.
The Ukrainian Leader was said to have targeted those high Russians integrating Ukraine’s occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant into Russia’s grid, taking part in the seizure of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, manufacturing or servicing dual -use nuclear equipment.
The others were said to have been linked to the export of the country’s enriched uranium via subsidiary companies in Switzerland, Cyprus, Netherland and Finland. The sanctions, which was said to have won the heart of the European Union, EU, Leadership, particular, was said to have also been imposed on the Russian Federation state nuclear corporation Rosatom and Gazpromneft subsidiaries operating in Russia, Central Asia and the EU countries but that was how far he could go.
This may have informed why he had repeatedly said that ‘’aligning sanctions between Ukraine and the key partners like the US, France and Germany, is essential to preserving the effectiveness of Ukraine 100%.
The Ukrainian Leader, according to an informed diplomatic source had expected to use the Alaska meeting to force Putin to handover Donetsk, Kherson, Luthansk and Zaporizhia, the four regions currently occupied by Russian Forces.
This may have been a difficult task for Zelensky to pull through as the tough talking Putin, had demanded ‘’full Ukrainian Forces withdrawal from the four regions occupied by the Russian Forces including Donetsk.
Zelensky, appears to have made President Trump understand that tat the last thing his government will is to cede the Donbas region, which going by World Bank report is rich in coal, iron ore, Lithium and other significant rare earth elements.
Determined to join forces with other Western Leaders to pressure the US President not to agree to allow President Putin of Russia takeover any part of Ukraine may have informed why he flew to Berlin, Capital of Germany, in the guise of going to participate in the German Leader, Merz, organized Video Conference on Tuesday, August 11, 2025, to take a position. He was said to have held a meeting with Merz, the Germany Chancellor, Presidents Macron, Serguio Mattarella, Italy, Alexander Stubb, Finland, Karol Nawrocki, Poland and Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of UK, Mark Rutte, Secretary General, EU and other top officials of the Union. including Zelenskyy, who was not invited for the Alaska meeting as’’ a counterweight to the Alaska peace talks’’.
President Trump may have alluded to the position the Ukrainian Leader, Zelenskyy EU and the Western Leaders when he noted that this Friday, August 15, 2025, he will be meeting with Trump, who is ready to call for a ceasefire in the ongoing war with Ukraine describing as ‘’no ordinary meeting’’.
His worry was that instead Zelensky and the Western and EU, leaders to be happy he could secure a meeting to end the three- year-old war with Ukraine, to stop the bloodshed, they are insisting that no region belong to Ukraine would be ceded to Russia to administer.
President Trump would want Zelensky and EU, Leaders including President Macron of France and the Germany Chancellor, Merz, to understand that if they blow up this opportunity of ending the war now that Putin is ready for peace, it may be difficult to get hm to agree for future peace talks which may too bad for Ukraine as he is currently controlling several Ukrainian regions and pushing further to annex more.
He was emphatic: This is the first time an American and Russian President would been meeting to discuss on the ongoing with Ukraine and to find a lasting solution. He had stated that though his Russian Counterpart had made his high demands by insisting on annexing the four Ukrainian regions occupied by his Forces, but they would have ‘’to negotiate’’ to avoid future invasion of the country’’. President Trump would Zelensky and his EU leaders’ supporters to under that he is going onto the meeting with Russian Leader in Alaska to lose but ‘’to make a deal that would be interest of the US and the world’’. He would want Zelensky to forget about getting back the Donbas region as it is a mission impossible and embrace the peace option.
Information had filtered out in the Turkish press both print and online why Zelensky of Ukraine is not ready to end the war with Russia to surrender to Russia, to stop f the bloodshed. Aydinlik, one of the country’s popular Newspapers had alluded to the Preliminary investigations of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, NABU, an independent anti-Corruption outfit against a good number of top officials of the Zelenskyy’s government including Rustem Umerov the country’s former defense minister and Alexi Chernyshov, a former Deputy Prime minister.
The Turkish Newspaper had alleged that a close aide of the Ukrainian President has been transferring billions of ‘won’ to the United Arab Emirate, UAE, a country in the Middle East every month, due to his involvement in corruption cases.
It was reported by Eidenk, another Turkish Daily Newspaper that aides around President Zelensky usually transfer $50 million equivalent of 70 billion won every month to two UAE accounts linked to one Hmrin, a former Adviser to the Ukrainian National Asset Fund., SPFU.
Eidenk, had further reported that these money Laundries are associated with Andriy Gmyryn, believed to be previously a consultant to the State Property Fund of Ukraine. It was alleged that Zelenskyy, who had presided over a corrupt administration had used two companies in the UAE, using a network of offshore companies related to their business based in British Virgin Islands, Cyprus and Belize to transfer millions of US dollars out of the country since the outbreak of the war with Russia.
Last July, Zelenskyy, had approved a revised bill that would restore the independence of the Anti-Corruption agencies of the government after the Prosecutor General approved a bill that would allow them exercise more oversight functions over such independent anti-corruption agencies like NABU and SAPO.
This may have informed why the Ukrainian Leader who knew that the bubble had burst had moved to replace the Heads of the NABU and SAPO, and replace figures released by the agencies with the figures controlled by Zelenskyy’s office. That much was confirmed by Senyon Krivonos, NABU Director, in one of his interviews.
Notwithstanding the position of Zelenskyy and his EU, Leaders allies, President Putin appears not to have shifted ground on taking over the Donestk and other Ukrainian regions already occupied by Russian forces, describing zelensky’s continued stay in office as illegal which may have informed why he and his aides are looting the country’s treasury.
Diplomatic analysts believes that Trump who was said to have played a major role in ending the war between the two Asian countries of India and Pakistan, though, Narendra Modi, the Indian Prime Minister would not take it. It is not surprising why he has put in much of his time and the American resources to end the Ukrainia -Rusia war without involving the EU leaders to avoid sharing the credit with them.
