With the regime change in Ukraine, in 2019, with the backing of the United States, US, and the subsequent election of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as the President, the battle was drawn between Russia and the West.
Given the expansionist moves of the EU and the US, interest for Ukraine minerals and rare earth resources may have informed why the Western Leaders had succeeded in influencing Zelenskyy with their financial and military support to join NATO in to spy on Russia.
He may have fallen for their tricks but played into the hands of Vladimir Putin, who had been involved over the years in the Committee for state security, KGB, of the old Soviet Union, before being elected President of Russia in 2000. The former KGB, Chief, who was not ready to tolerate the incursion of the Western powers into Russian controlled territories, using Ukraine was said to have stepped up efforts to stop it.

Between 2011 and 2022, the Russian Government officials had watched as Estonia, Latvia and Lithunia, all former old Soviet Union Independent Republics, joined the EU and NATO. Their next target which was Ukraine, may have proved difficult to actualize.
The EU and NATO, countries Leaders who were said to have started working closely with President Zelenskyy from the day of his election into office in 2019, in order to join the security Organistation, NATO, by 2030 may have seen a crack on the wall that would be a mission impossible but could only be settled in the battle field.
President Putin, who could not sit by and watch Ukraine, one of its neighbours and a former ally join NATO, which had the EU, US and the United Kingdom, UK, as members, was not ready to take it. He may have pre-empted Zelenskyy’s plan to think of taking Ukraine to jo in NATO, by invading the country in February, 2022.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine may have exposed the military collaboration between the EU and NATO countries involvement in the ongoing war between the old Soviet Union countries. Initially, Russia had declared its invasion of Ukraine as a special military operation to keep out the West and not a full declaration of war in the country but to defend the Russian speaking territories in eastern Ukraine which are the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Zelenskyy may have reasoned differently as he had accused Putin of his intended plans to occupy Ukraine Land and plunder its mineral resources to enrich its economy.
For years, the West appears to have been involved in militarizing and the Nazification of Ukraine preparatory to going into war with Rusia. The opportunity to test their newly manufactured drones, crise missiles and other weapons may have arisen as the power-hungry Zelenskyy had cried out to the EU, Leaders for help to stop Russia expansion into Ukraine. The battle for control of the Russia speaking regions of eastern Ukraine was said to dragged for more than three years.
As a prelude to weakening Russia’s economy, particular, the energy infrastructure described as the source of its military domination in the ongoing war between the two East European countries may have given Zelenskyy the audacity to give the nod to the Ukraine military with the support of the EU and NATO, to attack the Russia’s oil refineries and pipelines which supplies Crude to Hungary and other parts of Europe. The attack on the Russian critical energy infrastructure may have forced Putin out from his shelf to apply the full weight of the Russia military on Ukraine.

Given the direction of the over three and half year-old war which favours which had had upgraded its military equipment including the drones and cruise missile that no foreign defense patriot system can fire it down as it had dominated the Ukraine airspace that had caused much damage to the country basic infrastructural facilities in Kyiv, the Capital and the captured eastern Ukraine regions of Khakiv, Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Luhansk, Mykolaiv and Onipropetrovsk .
Zelenskyy had confirmed that Putin’s troops had intensified efforts since Russia initiated full-scale military operation in 2022, to capture other regions in Western Ukraine. The Ukrainian Leader had cried out that the Ivano-Fankivsk, Chernihiv, Sumy, Odesa and Kirovohrad have also been targeted and will soon fall into the hands of Russian soldiers who are everywhere with little or no resistance from the Ukraine forces.
The Ukrainian leader who is no longer carried away by Trump’s claims that Ukraine has the military capacity to recover captured territories from Ukraine from Russia is no longer thinking along that line as he had told those that cares to listen that what the people of Ukraine needed most now is ‘’more protection and faster implementation of defense agreements , particular, air defense to deprive the Russia AirForce of this aerial dominance of its air space and unleashing of terror.
He may have seen the need to take advise of the American President to cede the captured territories to Russia and forget about joining NATO, appears to be looking at the option of unilateral ceasefire in the skies, which he believes would open the way to real diplomatic talks with Putin.
His major worries in the recent weeks, was that the Russian military had continued to focus their attacks on Ukraine’s gas infrastructure, power generation and transmission, causing much damage in Chernihiv, Sumy and Zapohzhia regions as winter approaches.
Zelenskyy, who had repeatedly boasted prior to Sunday, October 5, 2025, attacks that he would never give any of the country’s captured regions to Russia, insisting that Ukraine he will fight so that the international Community does not remain silent and so that Russia feels the response of the people.
Appealing to ‘’the US and the EU, to act speedily to force Putin to stop’’ further bombing Ukraine and destruction of its gas infrastructure, he had made a U-turn to continue the war, noting that unilateral ceasefire is possible to forestall takeover of the entire Ukraine.
While Zelenskyy is seeking the help of EU, Leadership and President Trump to end the war with Russia, he was said to have threatened to bomb Moscow, to be another Kyiv, the country’s Capital, which is currently in ruins.
He was said to have had piled up pressures on President Trump of the US, by engaging the services of the EU, Leadership, for supplies of $90 billion long-range weapons including the Tomahawk missiles to strike deep into Russia.

But Putin was said to have made Trump to realise that supplying Ukraine long-range missiles will damage relations between Washington and Moscow beyond repairs, meaning return to the era of the cold war. He had sounded it loud and clear that deployment of the US Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine ‘’would mark a completely new stage of escalation of the war that may tilt towards WW3’’.
The Ukrainian Leader was said to have also extended the same amount of pressures on Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of the EU, urging him as the Administrative Head of the Union, to consider taking over ‘’the payment of the salaries of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who have not been paid in the last tree months, thus demoralizing their morale to continue the attack against Russia.
It would be recalled that the Zelensky had demanded for US $250 billion from the EU, to sustain the attack against Russia as the US funding arrangement was no longer regular under the Trump’s Administration compared to Joe Biden’s regime.
It would be recalled that Biden vacated office in 2023, former President Biden was said to have spent $350 billion to support Ukraine to sustain the fight against Russia and sell of advanced US, weapons to the country.
President Trump had planned to suspended the funding arrangement but that was how far he could go. He had secured the approval of the Congress for a $60 billion Aid to the east Europe country and additional $300 million.
Scott Bessent, the US, Secretary of Treasury had confirmed that the US, Government may have not have been regular in providing funds to Ukraine this 2025, because much of the funds that had been allocated to the prosecute the ongoing war against Russia, had been exhausted since 2024.
For much of this 2025, the Republicans and Democrats Lawmakers were said to have been at odds over funding of the Trump government. Take the incident of Thursday, October 1, 2025, where the Federal offices and agencies were shut down in Washington DC, were shut down.
