For years, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Corporate Social Responsibility CSR, Unit have been working in bits and fits. This is because past Director Generals of the agency may not have known the importance of the CSR, in projecting the image of the agency to the public.
Bashir Jamoh, Director General of the Maritime Regulatory agency have cashed in where his Predecessors have failed to fully make use of the CSR, to do the needful to help flood disasters and other natural disasters victims in the states, and also victims of the Islamic Fundamentalist Fundamental Group, BokoHaram and the Islamic State of West African Provice, ISWAP, in the north east states of Adamwa, Borno and Yobe.
The NIMASA Director general was said to have extended same gesture to victims of the Bandits Group in the north central states of Zamfara,Sokoto, Kaduna and Katsina, President Muhammadu Buhari , home state. Even Corporate Institutions were said to have benefitted from the agency CSR, gesture.
On Thursday, September 8, 2022, the agency had extended its CSR, gesture to Taraba, home state of THeophilous Danjuma, a retired Army General and former minister of Defense, during Olusegun Obasanjo’s Administration where it was said to have donated learning materials for pupils in basic schools’’ to improve the quality of learning in the state’’.
Kefas William, a Chief Public Relations Officer, CPRO, in the agency Department of Public Relations, who had Represented Jamoh, the Director General of NIMASA, had made the presentation of the items to the school children in Jalingo, the state capital to the administration of the schools Authorities.
William may have spoken the mind of the NIMASA, Director General when he said that ‘‘the gesture was part of the agency’s efforts to support the education of children in the state’’.
“ The NIMASA, Chief Executive Officer, CEO, had said that the gesture extended to the north central state of Taraba,was part of the Agency’s ongoing CSR, initiative across the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT, stressing that ‘‘If the agency succeeds in helping to ensure that students improve academically , it would have made the difference in their education’’.
Appealing to the school Authorities to judicious use the learning materials that had been donated by the agency, Jamoh, the NIMASA, boss, disclosed that ‘’it is the only way to give the children the best’’.
Anthony Danu, Director of Relief, Taraba state, Emergency and Management Agency, who could not hide his feelings had expressed his Appreciation to Jamoh, the NIMASA ,Director General and his management Team for the kind gesture,stressing that ‘‘adequate provision of teaching and learning equipment in public schools is a major challenge for Basic education in the state’’.
He had listed some of the equipment that was said to have been donated to the public schools to include desktop computers, printers, whiteboard, markers, assorted textbooks, writing materials, exercise books, food flasks, school bags, sandals and sucks, among others.
Saiad Yakubu,Headmaster of Howai Primary school, one of the benefiting schools, in the state capital had ‘‘thanked the NIMASA Management for their
Support to education in the state’’.
The Howai Primary school Headmaster further said that ‘‘the teaching items would go a long way in supporting the schools in its day-to-day learning and assured that the school will judiciously utilize the items for the good of the pupils and the educational development in the state’’.
The agency was said to have also procured medical equipment ‘‘to also boost primary health care services in the state’’. Osagie Edward, the agency Assistant Director, Media, Adverts and Brand, had said that the medical equipment donated to the clinics in the state includes stethoscope, clinical thermometer, pulse tester, delivery kits, hand sanitizers, beds and bedsheets, drip stand among others. The NIMASA, helmsman was said to have advised the benefiting clinics in Taraba state ‘‘to make judicious use of the equipment to enhance health care services to the indigent people’’.
Last August, the agency had donated medical equipment to some Hositals at the FCT. The presentation of the medical equipment toAsokoro District Hospital was said to have been handled by Iscei Osangbi, the agency Director, Special Duties, in the office of the Director General
