Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos state, popular, Jagaban, and President –elect, Federal Republic of Nigeria, who has made a historic visit to Rilwanu Akiolu, Oba of Lagos, on Sunday, March 5, 2023, having relocated to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, during the just concluded Presidential election has promised that he will not ‘’disappoint Nigerians but keep to his plans’’.
Until his visit to the foremost Oba of Lagos, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Oni of Ife, who had described him as a ‘’man of destiny and game changer’’, has asked him ‘’to lead the nation to an enviable position within the Committee of nations’’ and not ‘’to disappoint Nigerians and the people of the African Continent ‘’.
Oba Ogunwusi, who could not hide his feelings has urged the President-elect, ‘’to immediately assemble a transition team of cerebral men and women to come up with an economic recovery blueprint and swiftly on assumption of office on May 29, 2023, move into action in a way that will further assure Nigerians of the renewed hope’’.
The Oni had said that ‘’Nigerians cannot wait to be liberated from the unbearable economic hardship that has bedeviled the country in the recent time which many had linked to the implementation of the faulty monetary policy of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration by Godwin Emefiele, governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and his team.
The President-elect, who had said in in his acceptance speech, that he will be’’ fair to all Nigerians’’, was said to have assured the Monarch, that that he will ‘’work vigorously for the people of Nigeria, stressing that that triumph in the Competitive polls, which he had likened to a world Cup tournament will not be used as a ‘’tool to disgrace him’’.
Pa Ayo Adebanjo, led Afenifere, a Yoruba, socio –political Organisation, despite throwing their weight on Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra state and Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the last electionsmay have joined other Nigerians to urge Tinubu, the President-elect ‘’to live up to his words of building a brigher and more productive society ‘’ as contained in his acceptance speech.
Jare Ajayi, Afenifere , Publicity Secretary, had said that the potentials to have the country develop rapidly, , welfare of Nigerians improved and social vices curbed to the barest minimum lies in the incoming Tinubu Administrtion. Appealing to the former Lagos state governor and now, President –elect to hit the ground running with sustainable welfarist programmes, out terrorism and banditry, and putting an end to nepotism with round pegs in round holes, he noted that it is the only way to restore the county back on the path of economic growth that had been stagnated over the last seven years.
The Yoruba , socio –political Association, was said to have also stressed the need for him ‘’to bring down the hyper-inflation in the country, make sure fuels are available at very affordable prices and remove the artificial bottlenecks in the financial sector resulting in cash crunch in the society.
The Katsina Youth Enlightenment Crusade on Peace and Development ,a Civil Society Organisation, has called on Tinubu, who is waiting on wings to take over from the Katsina state born Nigerian President on May 29, 2023, ‘’to listen to the voices building a new Nigeria including from well-meaning individuals from other political parties’’, insisting that he must form an ‘’all-inclusive government of national unity’’.
The Civil Society Group, was said to have taken a cue from the Oni of Ife to advise him ‘’to assemble a Committee of experts in the economic field to bring an end to the financial predicaments Nigerians are facing in the recent time’’.
Worried that the exit of Buhari, from office, on May 29, 2023,may stall the completion of the Kano to Katsina Federal Highway, the Construction of 75 MW solar plant at Lambar –Rimi, Katsina state ,KEDCO booster station in Katsina, School of Nursing and Midwifery in Malunfashi and the proposed Funtua Agricultural University, that they have informed why they have brought the list of the uncompleted Federal projects in the state to the President –elect for necessary attention.
The Group, according to informed sources , are particular about the completion of the Funtua Agricultural University, urging the President -elect ‘’to give necessary attention it deserves through foreign and national aid to invest on its Agricultural potential .
Aware of the attention of the international Community on Nigeria after the February 25, 2023, Presidential elections, Tinubu, knows that he cannot afford to disappoint Nigerians, friends, well-wishers from home and abroad that he has tweeted last Sunday, that ‘’this is a good time to believe in the Nigeria dream, a good time to believe in the country’s renewed hope . He was said to have assured the world Leaders and the Commonwealth who had sent him messages of goodwill and solidarity that ‘’the Nigeria Eagle shall fly again’’.
While the President –elect had given the world Leaders hope that Nigeria will rise again, the Bandits Group that have been terrorising the north western states of Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, and Niger, home state of Ibrahim Babangida, a retired Army General and former Nigerian military President, may have sent a message to the incoming government that they cannot be stopped in their terrorists activities in the country.
This is evident going by what happened on the night of Saturday, February 25, 2023, after the Presidential and National Assembly elections, as the Bandits who may have allowed the elections to go on undisturbed had attacked the Headquarters of Maru LGA, in Zamfara state, killing the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, and two others, sending a message to the President-elect that the renewed battle has just started.
The Bandits who were said to have ravaged Dansada, Lalele and Mutumji, Communities under the Maru LGA, in the north western state were said to have abducted a good number of residents, but are yet to make their ransom demand to facilitate their release.
In spite of the fact that Mohammed Shehu, a Superintendent of Police and the Zamfara state Command, spokesperson had said that the police authorities are currently at the Maru LGA, the scene of the Bandits attack for an the-spot assessmement of the level of destruction and to ascertain the number of abducted residents, not much information appear have been volunteered by the people to help the police in their investigation.
Many have been put in the dark the state including security agencies personnel, over the recent attacks by the Bandits Group fighters in Maru LGA, which is about 84 Km, to Gusau, the stat Capital, as Ibrahim Dosara , the state Commissioner for Information had switched off his mobile lines to avoid opening up, on Bello Matawalle ,’s government next move and the police counter offensive measures that may jeopardise apprehending the Criminal elements in their hideouts I the state.
Again, on Sunday, February 26, 2023, one Dahiru Abba, Head of Maigari village in Rimin Gado LGA of Kano state has been , shot dead by gunmen, thus giving Mamman Dauda, the state Commissioner of police, to tighter up security in the Community to fish out the killers.
The talk in the Kano, was that the Maigari Village, were one Abba was killed may have been motivated because of the recent killings in the state that had been traced to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, where the ruling APC, had lost to Rabiu Kwankwaso, a for governor of the state and Candidate of the New Nigeria’s People’s Party, NNPP.
Four supporters of the NNPP, Presidential Candidate, in the just concluded Presidential election, were said to have been hacked to death by unidentified gun men, believed to be party thugs on the ever-busy Kano-Zaria road on Thursday, 23, 2023, barely 24, hours to the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.
