Until his deployment to Delta state police Command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, and former Nigerian Police Force, NPF, spokesperson, had a good working relationship with Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada, Ph.D, his counterpart in Customs Headquarters, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Benjamin Hundeyin, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, who incidentally was a former Public Relations Officer, PRO, for the Lagos state police Command, who has been appointed by Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, as a replacement for ACP Adejobi, appears to have sustained the good working relationship between the office of the Force PRO and the Customs PRO Unit.
On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, barely two weeks in office, Hundeyin, the Force new spokesperson had paid a working visit to Abdulahi Aliyu Maiwada, n Assist Comptroller and Customs spokesperson at the Headquarters in Abuja. The visit, according to AC. Maiwada, underscored the Service ‘s commitment to building strong inter-agency collaboration in strategic communications, public engagement and institutional trust’’.
Receiving the Force new image maker, AC, the Customs PRO, had commended’’ the humility and sense of responsibility’’ demonstrated by CSP Hundeyin. He was said to have assured his Force Counterpart, Hundeyin, of the Service’s support while drawing from his own experience to offer guidance on navigating the challenges of Public Relations in a paramilitary security outfit.
Describing Public Relations as a learning curve’’, AC. Maiwada, was said to have made CSP Hundeyin to understand that in the course of doing his job, he will face stakeholders with different expectations, ‘’but teamwork remains the driving force for success’’.
This may have informed why the Customs spokespersons had asked his Force counterpart ‘’to build a committed team, harness the energy of young generation officers and from the mistakes your predecessors.
Given his experience on the job over the years, he noted that these are the keys for the Force newPRO, to leave a lasting legacy as a spokesperson. He was said to have further stressed ‘’the demanding nature of the role of the office of the PRO, particular, in times of crisis’’, noting that ‘’professionalism, commitment, and resilience’’ are essential in safeguarding the reputation of institutions.
He was said to have alluded to the fact that Customs Public Relations is’’ a transient responsibility’’, stressing that what really matters is ‘’the legacy we leave behind’’.
In his apparent response to AC. Maiwada’s remarks, CSP Hundeyin, the Force PRO, expressed gratitude for the warm reception granted him and his entourage, describing his visit as ‘’a symbolic gesture of partnership’’. He had emphasized that ‘’security communication cannot succeed in isolation’’ and called for closer collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, under the close watch of Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, in advancing collective national goals.
CSP Hundeyin’s visit to the Head of the Customs Headquarters Public Relations Unit, was said to have been concluded with a guided tour of the Service Public Relations Sub-unit and the Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network, NCBN, where the Force PRO, was introduced to its expanding communication infrastructure.
