In a bid to improve on its performance in the nation’s Hospitality Industry, the Board of Transcorp Hotels plc, has appointed Udechukwu Obi Osakwe , as a non-executive director in the Hotel following the retirement of one Alexander Adeyemi, who had occupied the position in the Board for close to four years
.Going by his Letter of appointment,it takes effect from Friday, February 17, 2023 but subject to the approval of the shareholders in their next meeting. Many believe that Osakwe will bring to bear his wealth of experience in Finance and Management Consulting , into the company having held critical positions across the public and development sectors of the nation’s economy .
His rich profile bear eloquent testimony, to what is expected of him in the company: to help in repositioning the Hotel, especially now that the country is going through difficult time due to the Central Bank f Nigeria, CBN, under the close watch of Godwin Emefiele Cashless policy that had caused scarcity of the newly designed n200, N500 and N1000 Notes that are,used in in daily transactions.
He is a ‘’Chartered Accountant, Finance Director, and string Financial Professional’’, with a demonstrated history in the Management Consulting Industry .He was said to have also worked with donor Organisations, such as the World Bank International Development Association (IDA), African Development Bank, AfDB, where Akinwumi Adesina, a former minister of Agriculture and Rural Development,during Goodluck Jonathan’s Administration is currently the Managing Director. He was said to have also worked with GAVI, another International donor organization, where his track records speaks volume.
Indeed, with more than 30 years of working in the private and public sectors and wit his professional experience covering Management Consultancy and oversight of Management operation, with the Federal ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, and the ministry of Health and the office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Treasury House, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, may have prepared him for the task ahead in the Board of Transcorp Hotels plc.
In making the appointment, the Board of Transcorp plc, the leading Hotels, in the African Continent Hospitality Industry, are optimistic, that Osakwe, who is an Accountancy graduate from the University of Technology, ASUTECH, Enugu, south east Nigeria, will bring his’’ invaluable experience and commitment to Corporate governance’’ , which Financial analysts had said would be of immense great benefit in ’’driving sustainable business growth for the Company, in the nation’s Hospitality Industry’’.
The Board also have a word of Appreciation to Adeyemi, the immediate pat non-executive director for his ‘’excellent contributions and commitment to the growth of the Company ‘’ and wished him success in his future en deavours.
